Terms of Service

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use Slate. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.

Slate is a personal finance application that helps you connect bank accounts, analyze spending, build budgets, and plan financial scenarios. You can also connect external AI assistants (such as Claude or ChatGPT) via MCP to query your data.

Slate is an information tool. It is not a bank, broker-dealer, investment advisor, tax advisor, or financial planner. Nothing in the Service constitutes financial, investment, tax, or legal advice.

Bank account connections are facilitated by Plaid Inc. By using Slate, you also agree to Plaid’s end user terms and privacy policy. You authorize Plaid to access and transmit your financial data to Slate so we can provide the Service.

Slate offers free and paid plans. Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis through Stripe. Subscriptions automatically renew until cancelled.

You can cancel at any time from your billing settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable.

We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.

You may invite others to share a household. Household members can view shared financial data and a single Pro subscription covers the entire household. You are responsible for who you invite and for any actions taken by household members.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purposes.
• Access accounts or data you don’t have permission to access.
• Reverse engineer, scrape, or attempt to extract source code, except as permitted by law.
• Interfere with, disrupt, or overload the Service or its infrastructure.
• Use the Service to build a competing product.
• Misrepresent your identity or impersonate anyone else.

You retain ownership of the data and content you submit to Slate (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, process, and display Your Content solely to operate and improve the Service for you. We do not sell Your Content and do not use it to train third-party AI models.

AI features generate responses based on your data and large language models provided by third parties. Output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Always verify important information independently before acting on it. You are solely responsible for any decisions you make based on AI output.

The Service relies on third parties including Plaid, Stripe, Supabase, Google, and AI providers. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or actions of those third parties. Your use of their services is governed by their own terms.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR COMPLETELY SECURE, OR THAT FINANCIAL DATA DISPLAYED WILL BE ACCURATE OR CURRENT.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SLATE AND ITS AFFILIATES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) USD $100.

You agree to indemnify and hold Slate harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe your conduct creates risk for Slate or other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

We may modify or discontinue features at any time. We may update these Terms from time to time; the new effective date will appear at the top. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
